Knowledge Organisers and Skills Maps Term One

Welcome back!

We are so pleased to see so many smiling faces as we all embark on the new school year. We all have our fingers crossed for one which is not as disrupted as the previous two years. Our teachers have been working hard on designing lessons and themes which we know will interest the children and are ready to share the Term One plans with you.

A quick reminder – the skills map shows all of the skills which will be taught/used throughout a term in all foundation subjects. The knowledge organiser show the key facts and information which we expect the children to have learnt and be able to retain at the end of each CREATE and Science unit.

They are all available from our website here – https://www.rolvenden.kent.sch.uk/key-information/curriculum/

Year 6 Activity Week 2021

This year, we have approached our leavers’ events slightly differently. Rather than running a full residential, the children of Holly Class have travelled around the area and visiting different attractions and experiences.

On Monday, they had a wonderful time at Bewl Water where they went paddle boarding and built wooden rafts. On Tuesday, they went on an 8 mile Geocaching walk, using OS maps and technology to help them locate all of the hidden canisters. Chessington World of Adventures was the location for Wednesday where their bravery was tested on the rollercoasters. Finally, Thursday was the day on which the children went to the Clip and Climb centre in Tonbridge and the Richmond Light Railway for a trip behind a steam locomotive.

The behaviour of the children was exemplary throughout and they represented the school fantastically well. We are proud of each and every single one of them.

Wow! What a Year! Summer Production 2021

We are so excited to announce our whole-school end of year production 2021 is called ‘Wow! What a Year’. This film takes us back over the last 18 months with a humorous look at some of the stranger moments – home learning; daily briefings and of course, fighting over toilet rolls!

The film will be available in late July 2021 and will be freely available to stream for family and friends. Whilst we understand the decision to make this a film rather than a live performance may be disappointing for some, we have based this on the fact that many of our community (including a majority within our teaching team) will not be fully vaccinated by the end of the Summer Term. We also believe that producing a film will give you something positive to look back on in the years to come as we reflect on this strange time. We are currently planning for a return to live productions in December of this year.

To launch the whole-school project, Holly Class have recorded one of the songs for you to listen to. Enjoy listening to the title song from ‘Wow! What a Year!’
